Google has begun releasing version 10.4 of its Pixel Camera app through the Google Play Store, with the latest update focusing on performance improvements and bug fixes rather than introducing new camera features.

The update accompanies Google’s June 2026 Pixel Drop and is being released in stages, meaning some Pixel users may need to wait before it becomes available on their devices.

Instead of adding new shooting modes or redesigning the interface, Pixel Camera 10.4 appears to complement a series of fixes included in Google’s latest software update. Several camera-related issues affecting recent Pixel smartphones have been addressed to improve reliability during everyday use.

Among the resolved problems is a stability issue that could trigger camera-related system crashes on supported devices from the Pixel 9 through to the Pixel 10a. Google has also corrected a bug affecting video recording on the Pixel 10 series that could cause the Camera app to freeze when switching zoom levels. Another fix targets an issue that resulted in unexpected camera service crashes across a broader range of devices, including the Pixel 6 through to the Pixel 10a.

The emphasis on reliability is consistent with Google’s recent approach to software updates. The company delivered a major redesign of the Pixel Camera app with version 10.1 in October 2025, introducing its Material 3 Expressive interface and updated controls. With those visual changes still relatively recent, the latest release instead concentrates on refining the overall user experience.

Google traditionally reserves its biggest camera enhancements for new hardware launches, with software features often debuting alongside the latest Pixel smartphones before gradually expanding to older compatible models through future Pixel Drops.

That means users waiting for significant new photography tools may need to wait until the expected launch of the Pixel 11 later this year, when Google is likely to introduce additional camera capabilities tied to its next generation of smartphones.

For now, Pixel Camera 10.4 is primarily intended to deliver a more dependable experience by improving stability and resolving known software issues. As with many Google software releases, the rollout is happening gradually, so eligible Pixel owners may not see the update immediately.
