Google Prepares Long-Awaited Fix For Pocket Dial On Pixel Phones
Google appears to be close to resolving one of the most persistent complaints from Pixel owners, with a fix for accidental screen touches now confirmed as complete. The issue, which dates back to the Pixel 6 series, has been marked as resolved on Google’s public Issue Tracker, suggesting the solution is ready for release.
For years, Pixel users have reported problems such as phones making calls, opening apps or switching on the torch while stored in a pocket or bag. Competing Android brands including Samsung and OnePlus already offer dedicated accidental touch protection that relies on proximity sensors to disable the display when the device is not in use. Until now, Pixel devices have lacked an equivalent feature.
A recent update highlighted by PiunikaWeb points to a change coming soon. In a response posted on the Issue Tracker, a Google engineer confirmed that the problem has been fixed internally and will roll out in a future software update. As the improvement did not appear in the December 2025 Pixel update, it is likely to arrive in an early 2026 release or as part of the next Pixel Feature Drop.

Google has not yet explained how the solution will be implemented. It may take the form of a new setting that allows users to enable pocket detection manually, or it could be an automatic system-level adjustment that blocks touch input when the phone senses it is covered.
Whatever approach Google chooses, the update should bring welcome relief to Pixel owners who have grown tired of accidental interactions. With the fix finally in sight, everyday use of Pixel phones should soon become far less irritating when devices are tucked away.
