Google Pixel 10 Pro XL Shows Big Improvements in Repairability
Google’s new flagship, the Pixel 10 Pro XL, isn’t just good for its camera and AI, it’s now also turning heads for its repairability.
A teardown from YouTuber Zack Nelson, AKA JerryRigEverything, has revealed that Google has made its most user-friendly phone yet when it comes to repairs.
This follows Nelson’s durability test a few weeks ago, where the Pixel 10 Pro XL handled scratches, bends and heat with ease. Now, he shows the device is far easier to take apart.
The most striking improvement for the XL, which launched alongside the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel Watch 4, is the battery design.
Gone are the days of stubbornly glued-in cells, Google has introduced large pull tabs that allow the battery to be removed without heat guns or solvents.
This means the most common phone repair, battery replacement, can be done faster, cheaper and with far less risk.
The XL’s screen is now much simpler to replace.
Nelson describes the process as “near foolproof,” noting that a skilled technician could swap one out in minutes thanks to a single ribbon cable connection.
Even after full disassembly and reassembly, the phone powered on without issue.
Backing this hardware rethink, Google has also released free 200+ page repair manuals for the Pixel 10 series and continues its partnership with iFixit to supply genuine parts.
For years, right-to-repair advocates have criticised tech giants for making devices increasingly unserviceable, but this move suggests Google is now leaning into sustainability.
While Nelson stops short of comparing the Pixel 10 Pro XL to niche repair-focused brands like Fairphone, he says it is among the most repairable mainstream flagships of 2025.
iFixit has also praised the improvements, even if cautiously.
With Apple’s Self Service Repair program still criticised as complex and Samsung’s foldables notoriously difficult to service, Google’s latest design shift could set a new benchmark.
