A new retail listing has fueled speculation that Google’s next smart speaker could be only weeks away from release.

The device, known as the Google Home Speaker, recently appeared on Best Buy Canada’s website with a listed release date of 25 June. While Google has yet to officially confirm the date, the listing suggests the company may be preparing to launch its first new standalone smart speaker since the Nest Audio arrived in 2020.

The upcoming speaker is expected to play an important role in Google’s broader smart home strategy because it has been designed around the Gemini artificial intelligence platform from the outset. Unlike previous products that received AI features through later software updates, the new device is being positioned as a Gemini-first product.

 

According to the listing, the speaker will be available in Hazel and Porcelain finishes, with additional colour options expected in some markets. International pricing has been set at US$99.99 and £99.99, although Australian pricing has not yet been announced.

The launch comes at a significant time for Google as it continues expanding Gemini across its hardware and software ecosystem. Recent issues affecting Gemini-powered smart home controls have raised questions about reliability, placing greater scrutiny on the new speaker’s ability to deliver a smooth voice-assistant experience from day one.

For now, Google has remained silent on the reported release date, leaving consumers waiting for official confirmation.
