Google Ends Android Auto For Phone Screens Support
Users of Android Auto for phones have been told that the app will “stop working soon”. Google had previously ended support for the app on Android 12, however now it seems to be stopping the app altogether.
Those with Android 11 or older who still use the app have been greeted with a popup message upon opening that simply states “Android Auto for phone screens will stop working soon.”
While there is no confirmed date on when support will end, Google have announced that the app will be replaced by a service called ‘Google Assistant Driving’, which is what Android 12 users have already been transitioned to.
“For the people who use Android Auto in supported vehicles, that experience isn’t going away — and in fact we announced an upcoming major UI improvement recently at Google I/O. For those who use the on phone experience (Android Auto mobile app), they will be transitioned to Google Assistant driving mode which is our next evolution of the mobile driving experience. We have no further details to share at this time,” said Google in a statement to 9to5Google.
Reports say that at this stage, Google Assistant Driving mode is not as user-friendly as Android Auto for Phone Screens but that will likely change as support for it grows.
