Google is reportedly making a significant change to the subscription benefits offered with its Pixel 11 Pro range, cutting the included Google AI Pro trial from a full year to just six months.

Previous generations were considerably more generous when it came to the length of the offer. Google bundled 12 months of Google AI Pro with the Pixel 9 Pro in 2024, before providing the same year-long benefit to Pixel 10 Pro buyers in 2025.

The subscription gave owners access to Gemini Advanced and AI-powered features across Google services including Gmail, Meet and Docs. It also included 2TB of cloud storage, providing an additional benefit for people who regularly back up photos, videos and other files online.

Google has previously offered different promotions depending on the Pixel model and market. Standard Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 handsets received six months of Google One Premium without Gemini Advanced, while Pro customers in some countries, including Japan, were also limited to six-month offers.

The Pixel 11 Pro generation is expected to change that arrangement more broadly. Buyers across the Pixel 11 Pro family will reportedly receive Google AI Pro for six months rather than the 12 months supplied with the previous two Pro generations.

There is some compensation for the shorter period, as the subscription package itself is becoming more substantial. The new offer is said to provide increased Gemini usage limits, access to Google’s newest AI models, Google Health Premium and 5TB of cloud storage.

That storage increase is considerable compared with the 2TB included with earlier Pro promotions. Anyone who keeps a large photo or video library in Google’s cloud could find the additional capacity particularly valuable.

Google introduces Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL

The trade-off is that Pixel 11 Pro owners will reach the end of their complimentary subscription six months earlier. Google AI Pro is reportedly priced at about A$31 per month based on its US$20 monthly price, meaning users who want to retain the service will need to start paying sooner than buyers of the Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 10 Pro.

The larger storage allocation could also make cancelling more complicated. Customers who use a substantial portion of the complimentary 5TB may need to reduce the amount of data stored in their account or move to a paid subscription when the six-month period finishes.

Google AI Plus provides a less expensive alternative, reportedly costing the equivalent of around A$8 per month based on its US$5 price. However, it comes with only 400GB of storage, leaving a considerable difference between the two subscription tiers.

The Google Health Premium inclusion may also be relevant to Pixel Watch 5 and Fitbit Air users. That service reportedly costs the equivalent of about A$15 per month based on its US$10 price once the complimentary period expires.

While Pixel 11 Pro customers appear set to receive substantially more cloud storage and additional subscription features, they will have only half as long to enjoy the Google AI Pro package without paying. Anyone buying one of the new Pro phones will therefore need to keep a closer eye on when the six-month offer expires, particularly if they begin making extensive use of the included 5TB storage allowance.
