Gaming Tops Amazon 2018 Consumer Trends Report
Ahead of Amazon’s one-year anniversary, Amazon has revealed the major shopping trends and top-selling items from its first year in its 2018 Consumer Trends Report which sees gaming take the top spot.
Since their launch last year, Amazon has grown its available selection to nearly 100 million products across 29 categories, with Australian sellers reaching almost 10,000 customers.
Country Manager for Amazon Australia, Rocco Braeuniger stated in the report that “the nation has been swept up with a thirst for all things retro” which is translated into this year’s major sales trends.
Gaming was on top with the success of “retro” gaming consoles like the miniature version of Nintendo’s NES and SNES Classic Mini consoles and further brought home by the statement that “more Australians have bought Nintendo products from Amazon in 2018 than any other brand.”
The report tips gaming and retro-themed consoles will likely be the trend going forward with the upcoming release of the PlayStation Classic.
This love of nostalgia also led to retro games, clothes, and toys being snapped up including Mario Cart, LEGO, Monopoly, and Casio’s old-school black resin digital watch.
The report covers Australians’ love of wearable tech with Garmin and Fitbit products “making up almost half of our top 10 best-sellers in electronics”.
Braeuniger also alludes to the success of Amazon’s first ever Black Friday event Down Under that saw video games and games consoles as the best-selling deals, closely followed by dishwasher tablets and Bose QuietComfort noise-cancelling headphones.
