Amazon-related searches have risen by 93% in Australia since July last year as an increasing number of consumers seek out information about the online retailer’s local launch.
Data from Hitwise published by The Australian Financial Review also indicates that more consumers are turning to Amazon’s overseas operations for products across a wide range of categories.
Apart from the company’s Kindle e-reader range, toys were the most purchased product category on Amazon.com in March according to Hitwise, while personal computers and electronics were among the most viewed categories.
“Given many of the top products categories Australian consumers are already purchasing off Amazon are within the technology space, we believe this category will be impacted more than any other sector,” said Hitwise’s Asia-Pacific general manager Harley Giles (via The Australian Financial Review).
Hitwise said that Intel Core desktop processors, EVGA graphics cards and SanDisk memory cards were the most purchased technology items by Australians on Amazon.com
Data from the research firm also indicated that many visitors to Australia’s biggest online retailers were also searching Amazon.com, including 55.6% of visitors to Kogan.com, 55.2% of visitors to JB Hi-Fi’s online store and 54.1% visitors to Harvey Norman.
