Fujifilm Targets Cinematographers With New Lens Series
Fujifilm have announced a new series of cinema lenses to capitalise on an increased demand for high performance lenses from consumer and prosumer cinematographers.
Two lenses have currently been announced for the MK series: the Fujinon MK18-55mm T2.9, set for release in early March, and the Fujinon MK50-135mm T2.9 set for release in Winter 2017.
Fujifilm said MK lenses are designed to appeal to emerging cinematographers and videographers who would usually dismiss cinema lenses due to their large size, weight and price.
The lenses improve on issues typically present in interchangeable lenses, including minimised focal shift and optical axis shift while zooming, removing the need to refocus or reframe. A speed of T2.9 across the range allows for a shallow depth-of-field along with a “beautiful bokeh effect” according to Fujifilm.
Professional-quality features include three manual rings that allow for precise control of focus, zoom and iris, advanced edge-to-edge optical performance, and integrated colour temperature with lenses in the Fujinon Cine range.
Both of the new MK lenses will initially be produced with a Sony E-mount, with the launch of versions in Fujifilm’s own X Mount set to occur by the end of the year.
