Fitbit Tipped To Launch Apple Watch Dupe With Alexa
Fitbit’s next-gen Versa smartwatch is tipped to feature an OLED screen with Amazon Alexa smarts, in a body closely resembling the market-leading Apple Watch.
The news comes hot off the heels of a disappointing Q2 report, with Fitbit shares slipping as much as 21% after an earnings downgrade.
“With weaker Versa Lite sales, we are lowering the midpoint of our 2019 revenue guidance by $95 million to $1.455 billion from $1.550 billion and now expect full year 2019 revenue to be $1.43 billion to $1.48 billion,” read the company’s financial statement.
Post on Twitter by renowned tech leaker, Evan Blass, the new Fitbit Versa is tipped to feature a revamped design and AMOLED display – better positioned to compete with the Apple Watch.
The watch is also tipped to offer a curved 2.5D glass cover and updated case design, with only a single button.
The device will reportedly feature Fitbit’s PurePulse heart rate sensor and 50m water resistance.
Support for Amazon Alexa is a notable option in the intensifying smartwatch war, especially in the American market.
In Australia, Google far exceeds market demand for Amazon Alexa, however, the opposite is largely true in the US.
“While we are disappointed to lower guidance for the year, we remain confident in our long-term transformation strategy and have demonstrated good results across key areas of the business,” said Fitbit CEO, James Park, during its recent earnings report.
“Coupled with innovative hardware and software offerings, we believe we’re well positioned to bring more users to the Fitbit platform and continue to grow our business.”
