Microsoft will be releasing the first major update of Windows 11 on September 20, bringing a whole host of new features that improve upon the functionality of the OS.

The Start Menu will be getting a total refresh, with app folders in the menu, and resizable pinned areas in the menu.

There will also be drag and drop functionality on the Taskbar, a new Task Manager app that looks like a pilot control room, Focus Assist integration with Notification Center, and new Voice Access and Live Captions accessibility features.

File Explorer will now have tabs, and better One Drive integration, and the ‘snap layout bars’ that were introduced with Windows 11 have been refined.

Although September 20 is being touted as the likely release date, this is yet to be officially confirmed.

Microsoft will host its own Ignite conference in Seattle between October 12-14, where they are rumoured to be releasing more Surface products, in celebration of the brand’s tenth anniversary.
