FiiO FT13 Headphones Feature Rare Purpleheart Wood Earcups
FiiO has launched the FT13, a closed-back dynamic headphone featuring purpleheart wood earcups and 60mm drivers, priced at A$495.
Each FT13 is crafted from purpleheart wood, a rare South American hardwood that shifts in hue from light brown to deep violet over time.
FiiO claims the wood’s acoustic qualities, the same properties that make it popular in high-end guitars, produce a warm, immersive sound signature.
The earcups are CNC-machined, stabilised, and hand-finished with high-gloss lacquer, making each set unique.

A 60mm dynamic driver with W-shaped diaphragm expands the vibration area for cleaner highs and sharper transients.
Noise reduction features include a U-shaped damping tube, noise-reduction chamber, and sound-absorbing cotton, reducing outside noise by up to 26dB.
Despite premium materials, the FT13 features high sensitivity and low impedance, enabling operation with laptops, smartphones, or dedicated DAC setups without requiring bulky amplifiers.
Breathable memory foam earpads support extended listening sessions.

FiiO includes a detachable Furukawa monocrystalline copper cable with silver-plated wiring and 3.5mm and 4.4mm connectors.
At A$370, the FT13 is positioned as a companion to FiiO’s JM21 music player or K11 R2R desktop DAC, completing a wood-forward hi-fi setup.
The accessibility of the design targets users seeking improved sound quality without specialised amplification equipment.
The FT13 is available now.
