Faster Wireless Charging Coming to iPhones and Android Devices
Wireless charging is getting a serious upgrade, with the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) launching Qi2 25W – promising faster, more efficient wireless power for both iPhones and for the first time, “major” Android smartphones.
The new standard, previously referred to as Qi2.2, boosts maximum charging speeds from 15W to 25W.
Accessory makers including Anker, Belkin, and Australian brand Cygnett are already on board, with certified chargers beginning to roll out globally.
Apple has confirmed iPhone support for Qi2 25W, though it hasn’t specified which models.
The iPhone 16 currently supports 15W Qi2 and 25W via MagSafe. It Is widely expected the upcoming iPhone 17 will embrace full Qi2 25W capabilities.

The bigger news for Android users is that several flagship models are expected to natively support the standard.
So far, Android adoption of Qi2 has lagged, with only the HMD Skyline offering full support.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are “Qi2 Ready,” meaning they top out at 15W unless paired with magnetic Qi2-compatible cases.
With Google reportedly involved in Qi2’s development, speculation is mounting that the Pixel 10 – set for an August 20 reveal – may feature full Qi2 25W support, potentially with MagSafe-like magnet integration.
“The momentum behind Qi2 25W is incredible,” said WPC board chair Fady Mishriki, calling it a near-70% power boost over the previous standard.
More than 14 products have already passed certification, with “several hundred” more queued.
While questions remain about how deeply Android brands will embrace Qi2’s magnetic features, it is clear faster wireless charging is finally going mainstream.
