Facebook parent Meta has cut 10 per cent of its Australian workforce in the latest round of job cuts.

This latest round of cuts  will impact 6,000 staffers globally, and have focused on business and operational units, including legal teams and regional managers.

Facebook had 156 employees at the end of 2022 in Australia, according to local filings. Fewer than 20 of these employees were impacted.

A Meta spokesperson would not confirm numbers.

“Given we are in a consultation period it’s not appropriate for me to discuss any details,” she told the AFR.

According to emails seen by the publication, clients were told on Friday “a small number of people in our customer-facing teams” would “potentially be impacted”.

Meta have sacked 21,000 staffers since last November.

Since we reduced our workforce last year, one surprising result is that many things have gone faster,” Zuckerberg wrote last month.

“In retrospect, I underestimated the indirect costs of lower priority projects.”
