Dua Lipa Launches A$23 Million Legal Battle Against Samsung Over Image Use
Dua Lipa has taken legal action against Samsung Electronics, accusing the technology giant of using her photograph on television packaging without permission or payment. The singer is seeking damages of approximately A$23 million through a lawsuit lodged in the US District Court for the Central District of California.
According to court documents cited by Variety, Samsung allegedly featured the pop star’s image on cardboard packaging for its televisions as part of a large-scale retail marketing campaign that began last year. The filing claims the company used the image without informing Lipa or securing her approval beforehand.
The lawsuit argues that the campaign gave consumers the impression that the singer had officially partnered with or endorsed Samsung products despite no agreement existing between the two parties.

Legal representatives for Lipa stated in the complaint that her likeness was heavily featured in promotional material for a consumer electronics campaign without her involvement or any form of compensation. The filing also claims the artist had no influence or control over how the image was displayed or distributed.
Court papers further allege that the photograph was captured backstage during the 2024 Austin City Limits Festival and remains the property of the artist.
The complaint accuses Samsung of continuing to use the image even after requests were reportedly made for the company to stop. Lipa’s legal team claims Samsung financially benefited from what appeared to be a celebrity endorsement arrangement despite there being no commercial partnership.
The case includes several allegations, including copyright infringement, trademark infringement, breaches of California publicity rights laws, and violations of the federal Lanham Act.
