Desktop PCs Buck Overall Market Crash
While the PC industry is seeing a downturn in sales this year — due to global inflation, supply chain crunch, the ongoing Ukraine war, and macro economic conditions — sales of desktop computers aren’t falling as fast as the market suggests.
Notebook shipments are forecast to have fallen 20 per cent year on year, however desktop shipments have only declined 11 per cent this year, due to continued demand from the enterprise sector.
86.4 million desktop computers are expected to be have been shipped by the end of 2022, down 10.9 per cent from 2019’s 97 million units.
Interestingly, a fourth quarter slump, traditionally the strongest period of sales, has led to more muted desktop sales than predicted, with only 19.2 million units shipped in the quarter, compared to 24.3 million in the June quarter this year.
All-in-one PCs will make up 12.8 per cent of global desktop sales, the strongest since 2013.
Apple is no longer the largest all-in-one PC brand, with HP taking the mantle in 2022, and Lenovo sliding into second place. Apple now sits at third, followed by Dell.
