Dell To Stop Using China-Made Chips By 2024
US computer giant Dell has told suppliers it will stop using chips made in China by next year, with a view to reducing other “made in China” components from appearing in its products.
While Dell is yet to announce its plans in such strict terms, three people “with direct knowledge of the matter” told Nikkei Asia the computer maker will “meaningfully lower” its use of China-make chips.
According to Nikkei Asia, the goal to have all chips used in its products produced in plants located outside China by 2024.
“We continuously explore supply chain diversification across the globe that makes sense for our customers and our business,” Dell said in a statement.
“China is an important market where we have team members and customers to serve.”
“To best meet our customers’ and partners’ needs and expectations, we have geographic diversity, flexibility and stability built into our global supply chain.”
