CES 2019: Acer Unleash Convertible Gaming Notebook

Acer is levelling-up their popular and powerful Predator Series with the unveiling of the convertible 4K display Predator Triton 900 and Predator Triton 500 gaming laptops at CES 2019, both expected to hit Australian shores mid-2019.

The 17-inch Predator Triton 900 is more than a standard gaming laptop with its slim design, convertible 4K IPS touchscreen display with Nvidia G-Sync tech, and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 GPU plus Intel’s 8th Gen Core H-series processors.

The Predator Triton features an eye-catching CNC-machined hinge, dubbed the Ezel Aero Hinge, that flips, extends, or reclines the 17-inch display allowing users to transition the laptop from regular notebook mode to “Ezel mode” for playing games on touchscreen, to display mode which flips the screen to gameplay with friends, to tablet mode, which effectively turns the Triton 900 into a super powerful tablet.

Predator 900 also includes NVMe PCIe SSDs, and up to 32GB DDR4 memory, plus an Xbox wireless receiver if users want to game with an Xbox One controller, as well as “hyper-realistic 3D audio” provided by Waves Maxx audio.

The Predator Triton 500 is a more budget-friendly version of the 900, its thinner and more portable with a 144Hz 1080p display with Nvidia G-Sync and similar configuration to the 900.

“We are pushing the envelope on what a gaming notebook can be with designs that offer more uses while still packing in the computing power,” said Jerry Hou, General Manager, Consumer Notebooks, IT Products Business at Acer.

“The Predator Triton 900’s one-of-a-kind flipping screen allows for multiple gaming scenarios and better ergonomics, while the Triton 500 offers superb gaming performance in a slimmer, all-metal body for gamers on the go.”

With all the power underneath the hood, bot the Predator Triton 900 and 500 keep the system cool and running smoothly with Acer’s advanced cooling system that includes 4th Gen AeroBlade 3D metal fans, and Coolboost technology.

However, when being assessed by CNET, they clocked the trackpad at nearly 50° Celsius — hopefully, this isn’t a sign of what gamers should expect when the laptop arrives in stores.

Predator is also on track to release the PredatorSense mobile app which will allow users to control certain settings on the Predator PC from their smartphone including overclocking, fan speeds, lighting, and audio modes.

Both notebooks are expected to hit Australian retailers’ shelves in before July 2019, with AU pricing and availability to be confirmed.
