CES 2017: Sony Enter OLED TV Arena With New Bravia

Sony took to the stage of their press conference at this year’s CES in Las Vegas this year to reveal their new flagship TV, the XBR-A1E Bravia.

Packing 4K, HDR and Dolby Vision, it’s an OLED that looks more than ready to give LG’s Signiature series a run for its money.

Sony claims that moving to OLED will allow it to offer a TV with “unprecedented black levels, rich and lifelike color, dynamic contrast, blur-less image, and a wide viewing angle.”

The XBR-A1E Bravia will run on Android TV and be powered by a chip called the 4K HDR Processor X1.

Sony are also emphasizing the Acoustic Surface sound-features built into the TV. The XBR-A1E’s ultra-thin, speakerless design will see the display itself act as an audio output.

Sony claim that “thanks to the ingenious design, the entire screen resonates with rich sound emanating directly from the screen itself.”

It’s a fascinating inclusion, but one that’ll likely have to be heard in person before it draws the attention of home theatre enthusiasts.

While Sony declined to identify the vendor of its OLED displays, they’re likely being provided by LG.

Sony also announced a refresh of its X940E and X930E series displays, bringing faster performance and additional support for Dolby Vision and HDR outputs.

The XBR-A1E Bravia series will be available in 55-, 65-, and 77-inch sizes. Availability or pricing has yet to be announced.
