Canon’s Next-Gen Flagship DSLR Announced

Canon has announced its next iteration of its professional-grade EOS-1D X line of DSLR cameras, which includes major upgrades including improved video and higher buffer rates.

The full-frame EOS-1D X Mark III boasts 16fps bursts with autofocus via its mechanical shutter, 4K video at 60fps, up to 20fps in live view mode, and support for the new HEIF (high efficiency image file) image format.

The new specs allow photographers to sustain those bursts thanks to the dual CFexpress cards, with the standard hitting transfer rates up to 1600MB/s.

According to Canon, the 1D X Mark III’s buffer size is five times larger than that of the previous Mark II model.

As for video capabilities, Canon says the DSLR will support 10-bit 4:2:2 video at up to 4K/60p, although did not confirm whether the Mark III will have a crop factor in 4K video, like the Mark II.

Canon have yet to confirm the Mark III’s local pricing and availability, as well as sensor resolution, so watch this space for more.

In other news, Canon also unveiled two new mirrorless lenses to complete its full-frame EOS R RF-mount lineup, which are expected to be released by the end of the year.
