Foxtel Slash Presto VOD Cost After Consumers Fail To Log In To Overpriced Service

Foxtel Slash Presto VOD Cost After Consumers Fail To Log In To Overpriced Service

Desperate to build an audience for Presto prior to the launch of the Nine Network Stream Co Video on Demand service, Foxtel has slashed the monthly price of a Presto subscription from $19.99 to $9.99.

The service streams movies and some TV programs to subscribers.

SmartHouse has been told that less than 5,000 people subscribed to the services and that hundreds of free subscriptions have been given away.

Foxtel management have refused to discuss issues relating to the service with ChannelNews.

Instead, they use the media interests of 50% shareholder News Corporation to spruik information about the subscription Company that is facing the threat of losing hundreds of thousands of subscribers to Netflix when they launch in Australia next year.

Foxtel said that there are no lock-in contracts and users can come and go from the service on a monthly basis.

Viewers can watch on some Android tablets, iOS tablets and Windows and Mac computers, as well as Google’s Chromecast, which, like Apple TV, directs streamed products to big TV screens.

Overall subscriber numbers for Foxtel have reached 2.6 million due in part to the Company counting free Foxtel service customers who get the service when they buy a Telstra T-Box.

Consumers who log into the Foxtel service on a Samsung TV but don’t take out a subscription or download a Foxtel movie are also counted as a person who has subscribed.
