Bulletproof Backpack Sales Soar

Sales of bulletproof backpacks have soared following the latest US school massacre, according to the companies who manufacture them.

In the wake of the Uvalde, Texas tragedy, former Secret Service Mike De Geus, who founded Leatherback Gear, saw an 800 per cent spike in sales for the backpacks.

“Just as we educate and prepare our children in school for what to do in the event of a fire, we now must do the same for an active shooter,” De Gues said in an Instagram post spruiking the bags.

“We have fire extinguishers for fires, and now bulletproof backpacks.

“Whatever it takes to help keep our children safe against the current threat is worth it as these children are our future.”

A company called Tuffypacks, who make armoured bag inserts, saw sales triple after the shooting.

A spokesperson for MC Armor, who offer a similar product, told Business Insider that 20 percent of its web visits and calls in the day after the shooting were inquiries for its armor school bag inserts.

“We are always making awareness of the training and security for schools but sadly it is just at a moment of a tragedy that they look for it,” marketing manager Carolina Ballesteros said.
