Bang & Olufsen is taking a major step toward longer-lasting luxury electronics by partnering with UK-based startup Breath Battery Technologies to improve battery lifespan across its product range.

The collaboration will integrate Breathe’s software suite directly into the Danish hi-fi brand’s product development.

The tools allow for smarter battery design, precise system modelling and intelligent charging strategies, which aim to extend battery life without compromising on performance or aesthetics.

“This partnership enables us to design products that not only look and sound extraordinary but endure,” said Mads Kogsgaard Hansen, Bang & Olufsen’s Director of Product Circularity & Portfolio Planning. “We’re tackling one of the biggest limitations in modern electronics – battery lifespan – turning it into a strength.”

Breathe CEO Dr. Ian Campbell added, “Batteries should empower design, not limit it. Partnering with a company that has defined timeless craftsmanship for over a century lets us show how software can unlock new possibilities for performance and longevity.”

The move reflects Bang & Olufsen’s broader Luxury Timeless Technology strategy, which emphasises circularity, sustainability and repairability.

Unlike traditional approaches that treat batteries as consumables, Bang & Olufsen’s software-focused strategy allows batteries to “learn” from usage patterns, optimising charging and performance over time. The company says this ensures longevity while maintaining high design standards.

While the partnership does not yet specify which products will first feature Breathe technology, it’s expected to appear across Bang & Olufsen’s premium audio devices, from headphones to speakers.
