ASUS Unveils New Thin-And-Light Laptops At Computex 2017

ASUS has added five new thin-and-light laptops to its ZenBook and VivoBook ranges at this year’s Computex in Taiwan.

“World’s thinnest” and “most powerful” were key phrases used by ASUS to describe its new laptops, which ranged from convertible and ultraportable options to more traditional laptop designs.

“Today is all about our relentless effort in striving toward perfection. Our brand-new ZenBook and VivoBook line-up truly goes to the edge of beyond, providing everyone with a new definition of thin, beautiful and powerful laptops,” said ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih.

The ZenBook Flip S is being promoted as “the world’s thinnest convertible laptop” at a thickness of 10.9mm. Weighing only 1.1kg, the Flip S features a 360-degree flippable 4K UHD multitouch display and can be configured with a variety of tech specs up to a 7th Generation Intel Core i7-7500U and a 1TB PCIe SSD.

Another “world’s thinnest” was achieved by the ZenBook 3 Deluxe, this time in the category of 14-inch laptops. At 12.9mm-thin and weighing 1.1kg, the ZenBook 3 Deluxe packs a 14-inch “ultranarrow-bezel” display into a 13-inch-class chassis. Like the ZenBook Flip S, it can be configured with a Intel Core i7-7500U processor and a 1TB PCIe SSD, and also features two USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3-enabled ports for up to 40Gbps data transfers.

Rounding out the newly announced ZenBooks is the ZenBook Pro, described by ASUS as the “thinnest, lightest and most powerful to date in this professional-grade ultraportable series”. The ZenBook Pro features high performance components like an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX1050 Ti graphics, along with a 1TB PCIe x4 SSD and 16GB of DDR4 RAM.

ASUS claims the ZenBook Pro can achieve a battery life of up to 14 hours. Other features include a 15.6-inch 4K UHD display with a 7.3mm bezel, and quad-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound.

Meanwhile, ASUS is pitching the new VivoBook Pro 15 as “the most powerful VivoBook ever” thanks to its Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, working alongside up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card.

The VivoBook Pro 15 can be configured with a variety of hybrid storage options, up to a 2TB HDD and a 512GB SSD. The laptop also features a 4K UHD display and Harman Kardon-certified audio.

Another new VivoBook, which ASUS said is designed “for those constantly on the go”, is the VivoBook S15. It packs in an Intel Core i7-7500U processor, up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce 940MX graphics card in a 17.9mm profile 1.5-inch laptop weighing 1.5kg.

Pricing and release information for the new ASUS laptops hasn’t been announced for Australia.
