Arch Rivals, Acer Is Growing While ASUS Struggles

Acer is on a roll with revenue from their Predator gaming products range delivering 130% growth year on year while arch rival ASUS is struggling.

Globally Acer saw overall sales grow in April to US$543.91 million, this was up 12.79% on year.

Their gaming product line, including notebooks, desktops and displays – saw 190% on-year shipment growth in April, and 113% year-to-date shipment growth, disclosed the vendor.

In the first quarter, Acer’s revenues from gaming products rose 60% on year, while those from Chromebooks and enterprises notebooks also increased by double-digit percentages on year.

The story was not the same at Asustek Computer who own the ASUS brand of PC’s

An arch rival of Acer the Taiwanese Company saw its net profit dip 41% for the quarter and 35% for the year to US$80.03 million in the first quarter of 2018.

A big plus for the Company was that their gross margin improved to 14% in the first quarter, up from 13.4% a quarter earlier; and its operating margin climbed to 4.5% from the previous 3.9% during the same period.

In the next quarter ASUS said that they expect PC and component revenues to slide between 7.5 and 12.5% and 15-25% quarter on quarter.
