Apple Said To Be Eyeing iPad Mini Cull

According to reports out of BGR, Apple is moving to eliminate the iPad Mini from its tablet line-up.

Their sources claim that, after being “sized out of its own category”, Apple now plans to phase out the iPad Mini entirely.

Citing “fierce cannibalism of [Apple’s] own products”, sources (via BGR) say that between the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus and the 9.7-inch redesigned iPad, there’s not a lot of interest or room for the iPad Mini anymore.

Apple reported an overall decline in sales for both iPhones and iPads in its most-recent quarterly report, with the latter constituting a growing trend for the company as it’s stranglehold on the tablet market is subjected to pressure on both sides.

Given the overall shape of the tablet market, such a move by Apple might not be too surprising. According to the latest numbers out of the IDC, global tablet sales have declined for ten consecutive quarters – with global shipments of tablets falling 8.5% to 36.2 million in May.
