Apple’s lates monitor, the Studio Display, is finally getting a fix for its reportedly poor-quality webcam. The Cupertino based tech giant released the Monterey 12.4 beta software update yesterday. However, the update is currently only available to developers, and will roll out to everyone through their public beta program later.

The Studio Display is a 27-inch smart monitor that was released in conjunction with the Apple M1 Ultra powered Studio Desktop. Being the only smart monitor in the companies line-up, it is prone to bugs and issues.

Apple’s Studio Display was announced midway through march, and was met immediately with harsh reviews. Joanna Stern of the Wall Street Journal for instance, likened the image quality to an “old Blackberry”.

The camera on the Studio Display is similar to the ones found on an iPhone 11, featuring a 12-megapixel lens with a f/2.4 aperture, and powered by an A13 chip.

Apple spokesperson Jennie Orphanopoulos told tech publication The Verge that the update will fix issues with “noise reduction, contrast and framing”. In initial response to the bad reports, Apple quickly stated that they had “discovered an issue where the system is not behaving as expected.”
