Apple Music Passes 27 Million Subscribers

Apple’s premium music streaming service now boasts 27 million paying subscribers.

Revealed during the company’s WWDC conference this week, the company reiterated its plans to bolster its music service with original video content.

The company previously recorded 17 million subscribers in September and 20 million in December.

While the growth since then is sizeable, it still lags well behind the service’s biggest rival.

Spotify passed 50 million paying subscribers in March.

During the conference, Apple confirmed that their first effort in this space, James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke, will become available from August 8th.

Apple also announced their new MusicKit software for developers, which will allow them to easily integrate Apple Music with their own apps, and a new sharing function which will allow users to create and share music profiles with their friends.
