American Express Gives Card Members $50 To ‘Shop Small’

As part of its ‘Shop Small’ initiative, which aims to support small businesses through the COVID-19 crisis, American Express is offering eligible and enrolled card members $50 cash back when they spend with small businesses

This $50 is offered in the form of $5 back for each shop, where customers spend $10 or more, up to 10 times.

In Australia this promotion is running at participating small businesses until 31st August 2020.

To be eligible, card holders will need to enrol for this promotion here.  A full list of the participating Shop Small businesses can be found here.

According to the Small Business Recovery research commissioned by American Express, 80% of Australia’s small business owners are optimistic their business will survive the COVID-19 pandemic, but if trade doesn’t pick up, half said they fear for their long-term survival.

“In our eighth year of Shop Small, American Express will fund the largest cashback offer in the history of the movement in Australia to do what we can to help small businesses recover after what has been, for many, the most challenging year they have ever faced,” said Corrina Davison, Managing Director, American Express Australia.

From 2013 to 2019 American Express has given $19.5 million back to card members for spending at local small businesses across Australia.

American Express is running similar Small Shop offers in the US, Canada, and the UK.
