Amazon Loses EU Ruling, Will Face Antitrust Probe
Amazon is facing yet another probe into anticompetitive practices on its marketplace, after losing its appeal of a European Union ruling.
Amazon was challenging the EU’s decision to allow Italy to run its own antitrust probe in parallel with the EU’s own investigations.
This particular probe involves Amazon’s “buy box”, where Amazon highlights other sellers of a certain type of products, after the EU discovered the box favours Prime’s own retail business.

Amazon settled the EU case last year, agreeing to a number of remedies.
Now the Italian regulators will be running a fine tooth comb over Amazon marketplace behaviour, after the EU Court of Justice, Europe’s top tribunal, dismissed Amazon’s challenge.
It is a final ruling – and cannot be appealed.
