Amazon Fire TV Sticks Rendered Useless By Latest Update Bug

The latest update for the Amazon Fire TV stick released by the e-commerce titan is reported to be bricking many people’s devices.

The issue arose at the beginning of March and is yet to be properly addressed. Users affected by the issue found themselves stuck on the ‘Downloading latest software’ screen. While some users are able to stick to the previous update, brand new models of the Fire TV Stick Lite are required to have the new update, making them useless until Amazon resolves the problem.

One user on reddit posted “I just bought a new fire stick, plugged it in, pressed play, selected language, and now it’s been stuck on ‘Downloading the latest software’ for the past 30 min. It never asked for Wi-Fi but just skipped right to downloading this software. Never had this problem with two previous fire sticks that I bought.”

While a fix has not been formulated, Amazon has stated that they know of the issue and are trying to fix it. IN the meantime, users should try using a different HDMI port, unplugging the device and re-plugging it in and making sure that the device is connected to a mains socket.

Some users even suggested starting the update, and then unplugging the device from their TV for a minimum of 3 hours.

The Fire TV Stick Lite is the bottom end model of Amazon’s Fire TV Stick 4K, except it doesn’t stream in 4K (as the names suggest) and has no volume controls on the remote itself.
