Alienware brings QD-OLED Technology To Gaming
Taking a page out of Samsung’s HD picture book, Alienware have adopted QD-OLED technology with their latest gaming monitor – The AW3423DW. Despite its confusing name, the new Alienware display is the first to combine the latest in high end TV displays with the fast performance of gaming monitors.
The implementation of this technology offers an interesting perspective into what consumers might be after. While Samsung and Sony’s QD-OLED displays do offer more in terms of smart features and size, those who prefer to access entertainment from their desk or bedroom now have access to premium displays that target the desktop gaming market. With the addition of a Google Chromecast or an Amazon Firestick, all of a sudden users have a similar offering to the latest and greatest in TV technology, that also provides them with the best visuals available in gaming.
The AW3423DW boasts a 3440 x 1440 resolution (widescreen 4K) via a 21:9 ultrawide display with an 1800R curve. Backed up by a monstrous 175Hz refresh rate, those who have managed to nab themselves a RTX 3090 TI or other equally limited GPU will be rewarded with insanely smooth visuals and a lack of screen tearing or stuttering.
While there are other gaming monitors on the market with similar specs, the inclusion of a QD-OLED display set a new standard.
It’s also worth noting that the Alienware is already available for purchase, while Samsung and Sony’s QD-OLED televisions are not, meaning those debating between a monitor or a television may be swayed towards Alienware’s new display. However, by the time the AW3423DW is due for delivery in late June, the televisions may well and truly be sitting in the homes of many.
The Alienware AW3423DW is priced at A$2,299, making it appropriately pricey when compared to other gaming monitors, but much cheaper when put up against televisions with QD-OLED technology.
