Alcatel Release $199 ‘3L’ With 48MP Triple Camera

Alcatel has thrown down the gauntlet against rival phone makers and released its most value-added sub $200 smartphone in Australia, a few months after its debut at CES 2020 and prior to the local coronavirus pandemic.

The new Alcatel 3L is considered the ‘star’ of its new range, with the $199 device offering the company’s first 48MP triple camera [AI-driven] and 6.2-inch HD+ screen.

Local boss, Sam Skontos, asserts the 3L is Alcatel’s best “bang for buck” smartphone to date, with the company betting on its strong performance versus other models in the affordable smartphone category.

The device is supported by a 6.22-inch HD+ screen, Octocore processor, 4GB RAM and 64GB built-in storage. A fingerprint sensor and Face Key is also included.

The 3L’s 48MP AI main rear sensor claims to deliver high quality photos and videos even in low light conditions, courtesy of built-in 4-in-1 big pixel technology which combines four pixels into a larger 1.6μm 12MP image to increase light sensitivity.

The 3L will land on-shelf on Wednesday May 20 through Vodafone, with each of Alcatel’s three new devices accompany SIM credit. The 3L will come with a $40 SIM Pack which in many respects drops its price down further.

“Australians are looking at their budgets and technology needs more than ever before, so it is only appropriate that we answer the call with our new range for 2020,” states Sam Skontos, VP and Managing Director, Alcatel Mobile.

“To be able to introduce such great options at three critical sub-$200 prices shows the impact that our manufacturing capabilities can have in ensuring Australians have access to the latest technology without breaking the bank.”

Joining the 3L is the new 1V ($149), and 1V ($99) – the later is Alcatel’s first Android 10 (Go edition) phone.

Alcatel is owned by parent company TCL, whose display screen expertise is said to significantly benefit the company’s value-added performance whilst increasing manufacturing efficiency to retain affordability.
