Emirates Airline has banned passengers from travelling with pagers or walkie talkies.

The devices will not be allowed to be carried on to a plane or within checked-in luggage.

The ban comes in the wake of Israeli attacks on Hezbollah operatives in Lebanon in mid September. 

On September 17 thousands of pagers exploded after being boobytrapped. Israel says this was an attempt to shut down communications amongst Hezbollah, a Lebanese political party and militant group.

“Eyewitnesses say the pager bleeped, then paused, then detonated – giving enough time for them to be brought closer to the owner’s face – which is why Lebanese doctors reported treating multiple hand and eye injuries after the blast,” The Guardian reported.

Twelve people died and thousands were injured.

The following day walkie talkies began exploding. Fourteen people died. Vision shared on social media purportedly showed explosions in shops.

Emirates says any pagers or walkie talkies found will be confiscated by Dubai Police.

Meanwhile, Following an operational review, Emirates will resume services to and from Iraq (Basra and Baghdad) and Iran (Tehran) from today.

In Lebanon, Emirates’ flights to and from Beirut remain cancelled up to and including October 15, 2024.
