Travellers to Britain and USA now must pay $450 for a monthly travel pass – the price was previously $300. Cost of exceeding the data limit has more than tripled.

John Chambers, Telstra’s mobile products executive director, in a media release yesterday said “We understand that parts of these changes have not met your expectations (but) we have made these changes so that we can bring roaming Travel Passes to more destinations and so we can boost the data we include in passes.”

He said Telstra had expanded the number of countries where customers can use the Travel Passes, and increased the amount of data inclusions in the passes from 50MB to 75MB a day.

He added: “All Telstra Travel Passes will continue to enable customers in eligible countries in their zone to make and receive unlimited standard calls to anywhere in the world and send and receive unlimited text messages.”
