LG Locks In CES For Quantum Dot TV Tech Debut

LG Locks In CES For Quantum Dot TV Tech DebutLG states its 4K ultra-HD TVs with quantum dot technology will “offer a wider colour palette and improved colour saturation than conventional LCD TVs”.

“LG’s quantum dot technology displays an extremely wide colour gamut, making it ideal for 4K content,” LG states.

“The technology works by harnessing nanocrystals that range in size from 2 to 10 nanometres. Each dot emits a different colour depending on its size. By adding a film of quantum dots in front of the LCD backlight, picture colour reproduction rate and overall brightness are significantly improved.”

With the nano-sized dots emitting “extraordinarily vivid colours”, LG states quantum dot technology is able to enhance the capabilities of its 4K ultra-HD IPS displays, with the colour reproduction rate in its IPS panels increased with the addition of the quantum dot film by more than 30 per cent compared with conventional LCD/LED TVs.

“Quantum dot’s vibrant and vivid colour reproduction capabilities brings LG’s LCD TVs to the next level when it comes to picture quality,” In-kyu Lee, LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company senior vice president and head of the TV and monitor division, stated of the technology.

LG states its 4K ultra-HD TVs with quantum dot technology will be available in 2015.
