Apple Set To Strip Bose From Stores, JB Hi Fi A Big Winner
The premium US headphone brand will be replaced by Beats headphones following the acquisition of Beats by Dr Dre earlier this year by Apple.
It is not known whether any other headphone brands will be removed from Apple stores who shift several million dollars’ worth of headphones annually.
18 months ago Bose Australia cut a deal with JB Hi Fi to range Bose products across the JB Hi Fi network, the move has been a “Hugh success”.
Earlier this year, Apple paid $3 billion to acquire the audio company, which includes its line of headphones and its streaming-music app Beats Audio. It’s Apple’s biggest acquisition to date.
However, there’s no real indication that the Beats acquisition would have anything to do with Apple’s relationship with Bose.
Beats Electronics and Bose recently clashed in a patent dispute over an infringement regarding noise-cancelling technology, but lawyers for both companies have just agreed to dismiss the lawsuit.
Sources claim that Bose inventory will start to be stripped from Apple stores shortly with new Beats models appearing in Apple stores as of November in certain markets.
Prior to the acquisition, Beats headphones and speakers were featured prominently in Apple Stores, and Apple may now want to discourage competition. Alternately, Bose itself may have wanted to pull out because of Beats, or for some more mundane reason sources said.
