Philips is so confident in their Ambilight technology that they are offering a 30-day free trial period for its range of OLED 4K TVs.

Declaring 2020 ‘the year of Ambilight’ at its annual European Press Conference, Philips announced the company’s aim to get the automated lighting technology into every home.

Philips also unveiled two new OLED 4K TVs – the OLED805 and OLED855 – with the Ambilight technology that utilises an AI-enhanced iteration of its P5 picture processor with both Dolby Vision and HDR10+.

No word yet on pricing or availability.

According to Philips, 8 out of 10 Ambilight owners would only consider upgrading their screen to another Ambilight model.

ChannelNews first covered the technology with the launch of the Philips Android-based 4K Ultra TV range in 2016.

Essentially the Philips Hue Sync Box built right into your television, Ambilight works by radiating light from 2,3 or all 4 sides of your display to ‘drastically move the action beyond your TV and into a whole new thrilling dimension’.

The system is compatible with any Philips Hue light, with both systems able to extend the ‘Ambilight experience throughout your room’.

Both the OLED805 and OLED855 share the same slim chassis design, with edgeless bezels and a metal finish.

Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa are built into the TV as well for connected home use.
