Zuckerberg Takes On Musk With Twitter Killer: Codename ‘P92’
Mark Zuckerberg is banking that Elon Musk’s unpopularity will drive users to ‘P92’, Meta’s forthcoming decentralised Twitter competitor.
Meta confirmed that it was working on such a platform, but gave scant details.
“We’re exploring a standalone decentralised social network for sharing text updates,” a Meta spokesperson said.
We believe there’s an opportunity for a separate space where creators and public figures can share timely updates about their interests.” a Meta spokesperson said.

This isn’t surprising, given Meta’s penchant for stealing ideas (Reels, Stories, etc.) and the recent popularity of decentralised Twitter alternatives such as Mastodon.
According to internal documents, the app will initially allow users to login using their Instagram details, which isn’t ideal for a decentralised app.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri is reportedly spearheading the project. No timeline has been revealed yet.
