The new Onkyo range consists of four A/V receivers ranging from $599 to $1399, with all of the models supporting the new HDMI 1.4a connectivity standard for new 3D video displays and Audio Return Channel capabilities.

The line-up includes Onkyo’s new easy-to-setup overlaid onscreen graphical display that lets the user watch the program in the background while using the function menus. Additionally, all 2010 HDMI 1.4a allow HDMI content to pass through to the TV when the receiver is in a standby state.

Also, Onkyo’s RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI) allows simplified automated control of source and display devices and is compatible with other systems such as Panasonic’s Viera Link, Samsung’s Anynet, Sony’s Bravia Link and others.

The new 7.2-channel TX-SR608 ($1399) THX-Select2 Plus certified receiver has a new power amplifier section that uses three-stage inverted Darlington output topology, and a power boost from 90 to 100 watts. Audyssey DSX dimensional sound processing has been added to its predecessor’s Dolby Pro Logic IIz capabilities.

Additionally, all video sources, including those using the new PC input, and regardless of source resolution, can be up-scaled to big and beautiful 1080p via HDMI and Faroudja DCDi Cinema. The TX-SR608 will also include a front HDMI input, a feature first introduced by Onkyo in 2009.

The 5.1-channel TX-SR308 ($599) and 7.1-channel TX-SR508 ($799) feature 1080p HDMI switching while the 7.1-channel TX-SR578 ($999) gets 1080p up-scaling from any analogue sources such as game consoles, pay-tv and set-top boxes as well as VCRs etc. and an upgraded colour GUI. All four models will be release simultaneously in May.

Amber Technology’s Product Manager, Andrew Richter said, “Onkyo’s 2010 new 3D ready models are a very exciting upgrade to the already powerful 2009 lineup. We are quite thrilled to deliver Australia’s first wave of 3D capable AV Receivers. Even the $599 TX-SR308 model features HD audio decoding via HDMI, Universal Port and a new GUI (Graphical User Interface) making setup a snap.”

“All of Onkyo’s receivers offer exceptional connectivity options with as many as six HDMI inputs, plus component and composite video, numerous stereo input jacks, optical/coaxial digital inputs, and the popular front-panel connections on many models. All our receivers now incorporate Onkyo’s proprietary Universal Port (U-Port) connector which simplifies connections to optional DAB+ module (UP-DT1) and iPhone/iPod Dock (UP-A1),” added Richter.
