These Five Mobile Games Earned Over $10B In 2022

Despite 2022 being a tough year overall for the mobile gaming industry, the top five-selling titles still managed to rake in over A$10 billion over the twelve-month period.

Chinese giant Tencent was responsible for the two highest-grossing titles for 2022, with Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile bringing in a combined A$5.68 billion.

Whereas top-seller Honor of Kings earned A$3.2 billion, up from A$2.53 billion the previous year, PUBG Mobile saw revenue fall by A$432 million, to A$2.48 billion.

Genshin Impact players spent A$2.25 billion, up from A$1.81billion, while Candy Crush leaped from A$1.28 billion to A$1.48.

Fifth-highest selling game Roblox also saw player spending drop, by A$144 million to A$1.24 billion.

According to Sensor Tower data, mobile gaming revenue fell nearly 9.6 per cent during the first half of 2022, from a year earlier, to A$17 billion, with downloads decreasing 2.5 per cent.

Full year figures are yet to be released, but Unity Software, Roblox, Electronic Arts and Take-Two all reported September financials that showed the first half slump didn’t lift during the back end of 2022.

Despite two of the top five sellers seeing year-on-year revenue declines, the top five mobile games still took in A$576,000 more than in 2021 – proof that a tentpole title is more vital than ever.
