Technics Reinvents Its Legendary DJ Turntable With More Precision And Power
Technics has unveiled the SL-1210MKX, a new direct-drive DJ turntable designed to deliver greater stability, more precise pitch control and improved performance in demanding club environments.
Positioned above the existing SL-1210MK7, the SL-1210MKX is the latest addition to Technics’ legendary SL-1200 series, which has been a favourite among professional DJs for more than five decades.
According to Technics, the new model was developed with input from working DJs and sound engineers, with a particular focus on overcoming the challenges of performing in clubs and other venues where powerful bass, vibrations and extended playing sessions can affect turntable performance.
One of the biggest upgrades is a significantly heavier, better-balanced chassis designed to minimise the impact of external vibrations. Technics has also redesigned the turntable’s isolation feet to improve resistance to acoustic feedback while maintaining the stability DJs need for scratching and other performance techniques.
Pitch control has received particular attention. For the first time in the SL-1200 series, Technics has introduced a ±4% pitch adjustment range, giving DJs finer control when beatmatching tracks and making subtle tempo changes.

The SL-1210MKX also introduces a wider ±50% pitch range, allowing for more dramatic tempo adjustments and opening up additional creative possibilities during live performances.
Underneath the platter sits Technics’ coreless direct-drive motor, which is designed to deliver consistent rotation while reducing unwanted vibration. DJs can also adjust the motor’s start-up torque and braking speed to suit their preferred playing style.
Other features include support for 78rpm playback, reverse rotation and a quieter reset switch inspired by earlier SL-1200 models.
Technics has retained the familiar appearance that helped make the SL-1200 series an industry icon. The SL-1210MKX features a black finish paired with a polished silver tonearm, paying tribute to the classic SL-1200MK2 that became a fixture in DJ booths around the world.
Stefanie Baron, Manager of Technics DJ Channel Europe at Panasonic Consumer Europe, said the company wanted to build on the turntable’s legacy while addressing the demands of modern DJs.
“The SL-1200 Series has earned its reputation through decades of real-world performance in clubs, on stage and in studios around the world,” Baron said.
She added that working closely with professional DJs and sound technicians had helped Technics develop a turntable offering greater stability, precision and creative freedom without abandoning the characteristics that made the original models so popular.
The new model arrives as Technics continues to refine its direct-drive turntable technology, combining familiar analogue controls with improvements intended to meet the needs of contemporary DJs.
The Technics SL-1210MKX will be available in Australia from December, priced at $2,599 RRP. It will be sold through Store DJ and Technics.
