Tania Garonzi Tipped To Bring Change To The Good Guys
Tania Garonzi is tipped to bring change to The Good Guys, with the JB Hi Fi owned business praised for appointing a woman into a senior role, while also appointing an experienced executive who started her career on the floor of an appliance and consumer electronics retailer.
Currently the General Manager of Chinese TV Company Hisense Garonzi, is seen in the industry as being experienced “She is a great appointment who has the experience and knowledge to bring change for the better at The Good Guys” said Bruce Thierbach the former General Manager at JB Hi Fi.
“She has excellent rapport with brands and key executives in the industry which will benefit her” he said.
“She will be one of the most experienced merchandising executives in the industry, she has grown Hisense as a brand, and I wish her a lot of success”.
Michael Richardson the former Vice President of Sales at Samsung said, “I have known Tania for a long time she is a great person, who is experienced, and she will bring a fresh approach especially as the industry needs new thinking, new categories, if retailers are to grow”.
Garonzi started her career at Brash’s an Australian music and electronics retailer, she then went to work at JB Hi Fi.
In 2006 she joined Chinese brand Hisense launching TV’s and appliances.
Today Hisense is a major brand in the TV and appliance markets and the appointment of an archrival has upset some who are now going to have to negotiate with Garonzi in the future.
She told ChannelNews during an exclusive interview that the industry does needs to change. “This is an evolving industry and I look forward to the challenges ahead”.
She said that no decision has been made on her start date as she has a 6 month no compete clause in her Hisense contract. “we are still discussing these issues” she said.
“I am looking forward to the challenge of working with The Good Guys team, they have done a great job”.
When asked about the future for appliances and consumer electronics retailers she admitted that is a need for new categories and a new generation of products in those categories.
The big question now is who will replace her at Hisense with several names being banded around including Michael Doyle the former GM and Sales director at Electrolux and prior to that sales director at LG Electronics an archrival of Hisense.
At The Good Guys Garonzi replaces Biag Capasso who is taking over from Terry Smart as managing director of The Good Guys next week.
Commenting on the appointment of his successor, Capasso said, “Tania has done a great job in managing and growing the Hisense business in Australia. She brings successful management skills, respect from within the industry and a strong understanding of how to create plans that benefit both retailers and suppliers for the long term. We look forward to Tania coming into The Good Guys business and continuing to lead a strong merchandise team to future success.”.
Talking to ChannelNews yesterday Capasso described the appointment as “exiting times for the retailer”.
We understands that Harvey Norman executives who have been big backers of Hisense are concerned about the appointment of Garonzi at an arch rival.
