OLED TV Fight Between Samsung & LG Tipped Pre London Olympics

The new Organic Light-Emitting Diode – OLED – will be revealed at t this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in January.

Running in to the last two quarters of 2012 several TV companies are tipped to launch Smart TVs with high performance 4K panels. Among the brands set to deliver the new display screens are LG, Toshiba, Sharp and Samsung. Panasonic is set to introduce a similar quality plasma TV.

While full HD TVs have a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, 4K panels are significantly sharper due to the introduction of a new resolution of 3840 x 2160.

Toshiba already has a 4K 2D resolution TV, and we’re expecting a new version to be shown at CES.

The big technology in the first half of 2012 will be OLED, a technology that Sony tried to dominate 3 years ago but were unable to deliver due to the failure rate in their production plants.

OLED uses less power than LCD or plasma technologies, offer high brightness with impressive black levels which combine to provide a contrast level unmatched by any display technology  and spare traditional, bulky cathode-ray tubes.

In the past several companies have struggled to deliver consumer version OLED TVs in large sizes.

While their use is commonplace in high-end smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S II, TVs based on OLED technology are few and far between.

Industry watcher OLED-Display claims that this will change in January, however, with Samsung and LG due to unveil 55-inch OLED-based HDTVs at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
