Switch 2 Becomes Fastest-Selling Console Ever
Nintendo has announced that its Switch 2 console sold 5.82 million units by the end of June, marking less than a month of availability and establishing it as the fastest-selling game console of all time.
The figure builds on the console’s strong launch performance, which saw over 3.5 million units sold in its first week.
The Switch 2’s sales significantly outpaced its predecessor, which managed 2.7 million units in its first month, representing more than double the original Switch’s initial performance.
Nintendo reported that demand continues to exceed supply “in many countries,” causing ongoing shortages.
The company has committed to increasing production to meet global demand and has apologised for the inconvenience caused by limited availability.
The Switch 2’s success has driven substantial financial gains for Nintendo, with quarterly revenue rising 132% in Q2 (April to June) to $5.8 billion, compared to approximately $2.4 billion in Q2 2024.

Nintendo is forecasting sales of 15 million Switch 2 units by the end of March next year.
However, potential challenges may emerge from new US trade policies.
The Trump administration recently announced a 20% tariff on imports from Vietnam, where the Switch 2 is manufactured, increasing from the previous 10% rate.
This policy change could impact Nintendo’s supply chain costs and potentially affect pricing or availability in the US market.
The console’s record-breaking launch performance reflects strong consumer demand for Nintendo’s latest gaming hardware and positions the company favourably for continued growth in the competitive gaming console market.
Nintendo’s ability to maintain production levels and meet global demand will be crucial to sustaining the Switch 2’s momentum throughout the remainder of 2025, particularly as the holiday shopping season approaches and competition from other gaming platforms intensifies.
