Super Retail Group CEO Sacked Over Undisclosed Office Romance
Super Retail Group has dismissed chief executive and managing director Anthony Heraghty following revelations about an undisclosed romantic relationship with the company’s former chief human resources officer, Jane Kelly.
The retail giant, which owns Rebel Sport, BCF, Supercheap Auto and Macpac, confirmed Heraghty’s termination on Tuesday, citing “new information” that rendered his previous disclosures “not satisfactory.”
The board also lapsed all of Heraghty’s unvested incentives and vested but unexercised rights.
“In light of this new information, the board will carefully consider the implications this may have for the company and any related matters,” Super Retail said in a statement.
Chief financial officer David Burns has been appointed interim CEO while the company conducts a search for a permanent replacement.
Super Retail Group’s shares slumped following the sacking. The ASX-listed company’s stock opened at $16.03, down from yesterday’s close of $17.26, marking an intraday fall of more than 7%.

The termination follows ongoing legal proceedings tied to the controversy.
Former chief legal officer Rebecca Farrell and senior lawyer Amelia Berczelly filed lawsuits against Super Retail, claiming they were bullied and harassed after raising whistleblower complaints about Heraghty’s relationship with Kelly.
The matter remains before the Federal Court.
Heraghty, who joined Super Retail in 2019 after a decade in leadership roles at Pacific Brands, had an FY25 remuneration package of $3.32 million, including performance rights valued at over $800,000.
The sacking highlights a growing scrutiny of workplace relationships in Australian and global corporate culture.
Similar high-profile cases include Nestlé executive Laurent Freixe, who was recently dismissed for failing to declare a relationship with a subordinate, and Astronomer CEO Andy Byron, who resigned after a viral clip showed him and a senior staff member at a Coldplay concert.
