Swedish streaming giant, Spotify, has launched a dedicated Wear OS app for smartwatches and wearable devices, as it seeks to further move beyond phone and speaker use.
Spotify is rolling out its new Wear OS app in the coming week, and is tipped to be a significant improvement over the previous Spotify app for Android Wear.
The new Spotify for Wear OS app offers better music/podcast playback control and playlist browsing capabilities directly from a smartwatch.
Of notable importance, the app supports Spotify Connect, enabling users to play stream music to connected speakers.
For ease of use, the new app’s interface remains clean and user-friendly, with a recently played portal, and a heart-icon to save tracks to user playlists.
Smartwatch users can also easily skip backwards 15 seconds (e.g. when listening to a podcast).
Unlike Spotify’s app for the Samsung Gear, it reportedly does not [currently] offer offline playback.
Spotify has inked a deal with Fossil Group to preinstall the app on Gen 4 smartwatches and Michael Kors Access Runways smartwatches from November in the US.
