Spotify Finally Introduces Lossless Audio
After years of teasing, Spotify has finally rolled out lossless audio for Premium subscribers, promising a richer, more detailed listening experience.
Users have been waiting since around 2017 for the lossless audio rollout.
Spotify’s long-promised ”HiFi” tier, announced in February 2021 as a lossless audio upgrade, never actually launched despite expectations it would arrive by the end of that year.
The new feature allows users to stream music in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC, unlocking greater depth and clarity across nearly every track in the platform’s library.
Spotify Lossless is available on mobile, desktop, tablets and devices supporting Spotify Connect, including Sony, Bose, Samsung and Sennheiser hardware.
Support for Sonos and Amazon devices will arrive next month.

For the best experience, Spotify recommends streaming over Wi-Fi with wired headphones or speakers, as Bluetooth currently cannot handle the bandwidth required for true lossless audio.
The rollout is gradual, reaching more than 50 markets by October, with Australia among the first to gain access.
Subscribers will receive an in-app notification when Lossless is available. Spotify has not increased Premium pricing for the feature, unlike some competitors that offer high-resolution audio through premium tiers.
Spotify Lossless joins the platform’s existing features including DJ, AI Playlist, Mix, and curated playlists.
While the 24-bit/44.1 kHz limit is modest compared with rivals like Tidal or Amazon Music Ultra HD, it represents a long-awaited upgrade for Spotify users who have been waiting years for the upgrade.
