Spotify Australia Offers Free Google Home Mini To Subscribers

Spotify Australia has teamed up with Google to offer a free Google Home Mini to new and existing Premium Family account holders until 14 May 2019.

The Premium Family account provides membership for up to six Spotify accounts at one single address for a monthly AU$17.99 subscription fee.

Spotify is offering one Google Home Mini per family account to the primary account holder. Sub-accounts are ineligible.

Once the Home Mini is linked to the Spotify account, subscribers can control their music, volume controls, and playback via voice commands.

It’s a smart move by Spotify to entice subscribers to the platform after rumours that Amazon is developing its own free ad-supported music platform that would likely be controlled by Alexa voice assistant.

Google also announced that it is offering its own ad-supported free YouTube Music service to Google Home users as well.

Although worldwide Amazon is in the lead when it comes to smart speaker integration, according to IDC research 38.8% of smart speaker owners opted for a Google Home.

“We’re excited to be partnering with Google to bring the magic of voice to our Spotify Premium Family subscribers,” says Alex Norström, Spotify Chief Premium Business Officer.

“After all, what’s more fun than sharing the music you love with the people you love.”

The Spotify-Google Home Mini offer is available to new and existing Premium Family Account holders in Australia until 14 May 2019. Devices need to be redeemed by 31 May 2019.
