Microsoft’s takeover of Activision Blizzard will result in the company using their ownership of Call of Duty “somehow to damage us”, according to a Sony executive.

“I believe this transaction is bad for competition,” said James Ryan, the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment said in a video deposition in federal court.

Ryan told the judge how Microsoft’s ownership of popular shooter Call Of Duty will lead to the company imposing a “full foreclosure or partial foreclosure” for PlayStation users, leading to “some kind of degraded experience” for these gamers.

“Microsoft wants to take gaming into the future by meeting gamers where they are across platforms, while Sony wants to protect its dominant position,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement.

“That’s why our leaders have shown up in person to testify about how this merger benefits gamers.”

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and Activision’s chief Bobby Kotick will take the witness stand today, to be grilled by attorneys for the FTC.
